Stop signs sometimes are not respected as much as they are in the US, so be extra careful and attentive. Also, be cautious to slight turns from drivers as it may be the case that people don’t mark their following turns.

What are the driving laws?

It is compulsory to wear seatbelts in both the front and rear seats of the vehicle. Exceeding the speed limits in Mexico is a serious offence and speeding is strictly monitored. The Mexican military operate at border control and at various checkpoints throughout Mexico. They will require you’re an ID, and it’s likely they will search your vehicle for drugs or weapons. Be patient, courteous and comply with their requests. They have the right to search your car.
